Youth and Women Empowerment (YAWE) Foundation is a registered community based NGO, located in Fort Portal Town, Kabarole District, Uganda. Since its inception it has been involved in activities directly targeting children, youth, women and other vulnerable people in the community. YAWE Foundation provides a platform in the community for promotion human rights, HIV awareness, hygiene and sanitation, vocational and life skills development activities for self reliance and sustainable social economic development. YAWE Foundation works with vulnerable youth and women in the urban and rural communities to improve their health and social economic welfare. We promote poverty eradication and community awareness on issues of primary Health Care and HIV/AIDS. Preventing campaigns and encouraging activities of self reliance, we build the capacity of our community members in leadership, entrepreneurship and business management skills.
YAWE Foundation operates a youth friendly health centre in Kabarole district which offers a wide range of youth friendly health services including, HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT), Psychological consultation, Immunization, Family planning services, Antenatal care, diagnosis and treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
YAWE foundation has established a strong network of Young People Living with HIV/AIDs (YPLHIV) in Kabarole and the neighboring districts with the aim of empowering them to overcome stigma, improve treatment adherence, and positive living. This has been a unique intervention that has brought on board the young positives on the campaign to achieve Zero new HIV/AIDS related death, Zero stigma and discrimination, and Zero new HIV transmission.
