YAWE BRASS BAND

Brass band is one of the YAWE foundations projects under psychosocial program towards fulfilling the mission and vision of YAWE it  was a team of teenage vulnerable youth in ART care to serve as a therapy and life skills to prepare them for adulthood the group started in 2011 who expressed interest in brass band playing who used to meet every Saturday for individual and group counseling brass was the mobilization tool for the organization in community education campaigns to fight HIV stigma and discrimination, Annual Youth conference,  AIDS candle light and International World AIDS day events as well as providing income to support those who were from child headed families earn a living in case of group was hired for performance. While as brass band was the lead activity, the youth developed other innovations like break dances, charity activities like house repairs and constructions for the vulnerable families. By 2020 the most of the youth had aged up, majority had finished school, some  had already go the gift of training, others were ready for income generation skills because their goals changed prompting adjustments from the management after this transition YAWE already started the Social Enterprise project where all income generation/ skilling would be integrated to create income, brass band became one of the income generation activities under YAWE Social enterprise with new operation policies.
